From 1997 until 2004, Gerard Simi was the owner of the world famous Raymond Revuebar Theatre and Night Club, which was one of the most visited Soho venues for half a century in London.
Celebrated as the world centre of erotic entertainment, The Raymond Revuebar presented lavish extravaganzas and traditional and avant garde striptease.
Before owning the lease of the club and the business, Gerard devised, choreographed and designed all the shows at The Raymond Revuebar from 1977 until 2004, making him the most specialised director of this kind of entertainment in Europe.
Gerard also directed all the nude shows and Revues for the last 12 years of the Windmill Theatre in Soho before it’s transformation into a table-dancing club. With tremendous success, he staged exotic and erotic Revues including the infamous ‘Rip Off’, which run for 6 years.
‘Razzle Dazzle Burlesque’ was his last show there, closing this historical Theatre and also this chapter of a long line of nude shows, started by the famous Mrs Henderson, celebrated in the recent film ‘Mrs Henderson Presents’.
Gerard has also directed shows for the Whitehall Theatre, The Boulevard Theatre and Madame Jo Jo’s in London during the hey days of this famous night spot.
In Paris he staged Revues for the Elysee Monmartre and did other work for La Comedie de Paris and Le Café Theatre du Selenite.
He has participated in numerous documentaries including ‘Soho Stories’, ‘24 hours in Soho’ and was interviewed at length for his expertise in ‘Baring it All’ for Channel 4, a programme entirely devoted to Burlesque.
Gerard has also choreographed for music videos, the most important being Massive Attack’s ‘Be Thankful for what you’ve got’, which was an internationally acclaimed video that was shot in it’s entirety on the stage at The Raymond Revuebar.
Also,a one hour film documenting the latter days of the Raymond Revuebar entitled ‘The Art of Striptease’ was shown internationally and presented at the New York Film Festival.
