Text Box: Betty Howard - Burlesque Dancer 1940's

Beginners will go through the A-Z, starting with the very simple exploration of every day gestures and movements and their evolution and transformation into Burlesque choreography. How to stand, how to sit, how to walk ( there are at least 15 different Burlesque walks).

Gestures, techniques, position and movement follows.

Without these foundations no one can evolve into a true Burlesque Artiste!

By the end of the course, students will be a fledgling performer with new found confidence and all the knowledge needed to put together a short routine.

For those who may have become professional without any former experience and feel their lack of knowledge may be limiting their possibilities, we are certain that they will find our classes very beneficial.

Gerard’s approach to teaching is to make each class professional but FUN !  His aim is to instil confidence into his students and transform them into performers. His discipline was learned as a young principal dancer in the Marseille Opera, diverse International Ballet Companies and Parisian Folies-style Revues. He has continued to always expect the best from all his pupils. He knows that with a certain amount of discipline his students can develop artistically in ways they never thought possible. He has transformed numerous pupils, liberating them from inhibition and building their self confidence and self belief. Many of whom are now Professional and working Internationally. This isn’t just about dance and performance, it can also be about changing the perception you have of yourself in a positive way. ©

Since the early 90’s, Gerard Simi has choreographed special sequences for diverse music videos. One of these was filmed in its entirety on the stage of The Raymond Revuebar when Gerard was Artistic Director.  In less than 3 minutes he condensed a few important Burlesque elements into a fully nude striptease routine as requested by the Director, Baillie Walsh.

90% of what Burlesque involves has been omitted to fit within the time constraints of the video. However, performed with the professionalism of Ritzy Sparkle, we can see in this presentation the fusion of music, costume, grooming and choreography that is essential in any true Burlesque act.  ENJOY IT !

Now enjoy Gerard's work LIVE!
